24′ Living Entry Art Wall
Located just south of Houston lies the innovative luxury master plan of Meridiana. This spectacular 2700-acre community in Iowa Colony and Manvel, Texas hosts a myriad of amenities set within elegant lakes and bayous dedicated to education, learning, and discovery experiences for all stages in life. AndersonBaron and Rise Communities saw the cornerstones of Meridiana to include education, environment, sustainability, and a sense of community. We’ve been able to work with the team and set several initiatives to develop these cornerstones in the initial design, including the meandering waterways and inviting natural trails to celebrate life outdoors as well as the various “learning loops”.
Education and exploration are driving forces in the design of the community, as water, wind, and sun have directed its evolution. Over 21 acres of lakes form a bayou system that not only offers aesthetic and recreation opportunities like kayaking or year-round catch and release fishing, it also plays on the educational theme of the community housing some of the various Learning Labs. Four miles of trails will also be completed within the first phase, and most of them surround the beautiful lakes and provide an underground tunnel beneath Meridiana Parkway for residents to access the Amenity Village and children to walk to school safely. The lakes, trails, and learning labs offer endless opportunities for exploring, and the Amenity Village is the social hub at the center of the first phase.
The lifelong quest for knowledge and education is embraced within the theme of Meridiana, and carried through to the lifestyle of the community in the architecture and built environment, as well as with the physical and educational amenities offered. The primary community entrance sits just off of the newly planned interchange off Highway 288. At 24-feet tall, this larger than life “Artist Wall” monument is illuminated with LED lighting, cascading water feature, and live plant wall. The water falls over the surface of the art which changes with the seasons along with the vegetation.
THE AMENITY VILLAGE
The Amenity Village is the epicenter of activity and excitement in Meridiana, where discovery and camaraderie converge at one of the Learning Labs, the Conservatory, relaxing outdoor café, or at the fitness center or pool.
All of the buildings of the Amenity Village are arranged so they align perfectly along solstice lines, reinforcing the theme of science and discovery. The Welcome Center offers guests interactive touchscreen displays to highlight everything you need to know about the lifestyle of Meridiana. Visitors and residents can gather at the Conservatory, suspended on a pier over the water, for a wine or book club with a backdrop of beautiful views of the lake and surrounding areas, or receive an invitation the most luxurious amenity, the Ambassadors’ Yacht, which is a private, fully customized luxury houseboat docked on the main lake. The expansive lawn and amphitheater can accommodate over 1,000 guests for concerts, summer movie nights, and other community events.
At the heart of the Amenity Village courtyard is Meridiana’s 60-foot tall Meridian Tower, which doubles as a stunning work of art and a solar observatory connecting the earth and sky. The tower creates a sun spot on the ground that moves as the earth spins, and crosses the meridian line at local solar noon.
